A walk in beautiful Urca

A walk through narrow tree guarded streets, drinks by the waterside and an amazing sunset – the perfect Rio afternoon!

Situated just in the vicinity of the Sugarloaf Mountain, Urca is a beautiful neighborhood which surprises by its architectural unity and pleasantness. The majority of buildings date back from the 1920’s to 1940’s, in the styles popular at the time: art deco houses and apartment buildings, faux Spanish colonial style or mock Tudor houses.

Wealthy and traditional, the neighborhood is the home of famous Brazilian singer Roberto Carlos, known as The King of Latin Music or simply The King. Former “little wonder” Carmen Miranda was discovered by a Hollywood producer while she was singing in the casino in the area in 1938.

Today, it is a popular place to enjoy amazing sunsets over the sea, for relaxing and watching the scenery offered by the Sugarloaf Mountain or for sipping cocktails alongside the waterfront on a summer evening. With not many hotels in the area, the place gives a very local bohemian feeling.

Grab a drink

At Bar Urca… and take a seat on the sidewalk or on the waterfront wall. Check out the sunset and boats coming back from a day of fishing and just chill with a Caipirinha or a bottle of beer. It is a laidback place, your typical Brazilian bar, with great sea food, pastries or finger foods, where locals hang out.

Belmonte Bar – another place with a very local vibe! Great cocktails, great atmosphere and you will sure never get too hungry there: the waiters always walk around the tables  with delicious empanadas, pastels, garlic shrimp.. you name it! For sure you won’t fight it!
